Día de los Muertos special experiences return to Disneyland
The special seasonal experiences inspired by Día de los Muertos return to Disneyland and California Adventure from Sept. 7 through Nov. 2, 2018.
Disney-Pixar’s “Coco” is the theme of the Plaza de la Familia at Paradise Gardens. The area will have the interactive Memory Wall, the Mexican Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life) photo location and an area to take part in a new mask-making craft that depicts an alejibre (spirit guide) from the film “Coco.”
There will also be an art exhibit called The World of “Coco,” Mariachi music performed on the bandstand and Mexican food menu at Paradise Gardens Grill.
Several times a day, A Musical Celebration of Coco will bring together the Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia and the Grammy-award winning Mariachi Divas for a festive show of music and dance that tells the story of young Miguel’s journey as seen in “Coco.”
New this year, Miguel will join the troupe of singers and authentic Folklórico dancers.
Over at Cars Land, there will an ofrenda (a remembrance altar) pays tribute to Doc Hudson (aka, the Fabulous Hudson Hornet). I will be at Ramone’s House of Body Art, just down Route 66.
At Disneyland, Zócalo Park in Frontierland is decked out with a colorful display in honor of Día de los Muertos. This setting features marigolds and papel picado throughout the installation, along with a traditional ofrenda, calaveras (sugar skulls), an iconic figure of La Catrina and delicious food at the nearby Rancho del Zócalo.
