Photo Update: Monstropolis Rises at Hollywood Studios

New aerial photos provide an update on the construction of the huge show building and other parts of Monstropolis taking place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The new land picks up right where the original 2001 film left off—in an era where the city of Monstropolis is powered entirely by the robust energy of human laughter rather than scares. To celebrate this eco-friendly energy boom, the monsters are hosting a citywide festival called “H.U.M.A.N. Day” and opening their borders to flesh-and-blood tourists for the very first time.

The land will include:

  • The Door Coaster: In a major milestone, Disney is constructing its first-ever suspended roller coaster. Guests will board ride vehicles modeled after the movie’s iconic factory doors, dangling from an overhead track to simulate a high-speed chase through the massive, cavernous door vault.

  • The Glob Theater: A brand-new, technologically advanced venue that will host live entertainment starring the colorful citizens of Monstropolis.

The land will be meticulously detailed to make guests feel like they’ve stepped directly through a scare floor door. The streets will be built to scale for monsters of all shapes and sizes, packed with interactive storefronts and quirky gags—including sightings of the city’s infamous two-headed pigeons.
