Animal Kingdom: Construction Accelerates on Encanto, Indiana Jones Rides

Construction on the highly anticipated “Tropical Americas” expansion at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has reached a critical phase, with new structural features and initial landscaping now visibly transforming the former DinoLand U.S.A. site.

Recent aerial photographs from @bioreconstruct aand ground observations show the fictional village of Pueblo Esperanza is rapidly taking shape. The most prominent milestone is occurring at the massive Encanto dark ride attraction. Crews have begun installing complex steel framework and wire mesh along the highest tier of the show building’s roofline.

This framework will support the land’s first rockwork and artificial terrain, designed to mimic a steep hillside and obscure the massive industrial building to simulate the enchanted, mountain-bound setting of the Madrigal family’s “Casita.” Concrete foundation walls for the attraction’s outdoor queue are also being poured.

The first-ever Encanto-themed attraction will bring the magical Casita to life as guests join the beloved Madrigal family on the day Antonio receives his special gift—the ability to communicate with animals. Guests will feel like part of the family Madrigal as they join the celebration and explore their enchanted home like never before.

The dramatic conversion of the former DINOSAUR attraction into a brand-new, original Indiana Jones adventure is advancing. A towering, multi-story steel scaffold has been erected directly in front of the old museum building. The framework outlines a massive, stepped Maya temple facade that will completely enclose the previous structure.

Closer to the northern edge of the land, vertical construction has commenced on a new wood-roofed queue and the circular foundation for the village’s centerpiece carousel, which will feature hand-carved animals from beloved Disney stories, all “crafted” by a resident of Esperanza.
