Tokyo Disney Resort closing for 2 weeks over coronavirus
Disney is closing down its Tokyo resort as Japan’s government canceled or postponed large gatherings and is seeking to shut down all of its schools for a month.
Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Sea is closing Feb. 29 to March 15. “As a precautionary measure in line with prevention efforts taking place across Japan and in response to the recommendations of appropriate authorities, we are temporarily closing Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea out of consideration for the health and safety of our guests and cast members,” the Oriental Land Co., which operates the parks announced.
“The Parks are currently scheduled to reopen on March 16, but further information will be announced at a later date. The closure comes in the wake of a request by Japan’s government to cancel or postpone big gatherings and events over the next few weeks to prevent the spread of coronavirus,” the announcement said.
The company will refund tickets or exchange them for a later date without any additional fees or price difference resulting from the change.
Japan has not experienced a sharp increase in reported infections. Eight people have died due to the virus in Japan and left 900 sick, according to CNN. Worldwide there are at least 2,800 deaths and more than 83,000 global cases reported.
Japan is moving to control the virus amidst talks of canceling the Tokyo Olympics.
This is the third Disney resort to be closed due to the virus. The Shanghai and Hong Kong resorts remain closed. There is no indication when they might reopen.
