Disney, Oriental Land Co. expand partnership with Japan cruises

Disney and Oriental Land Co. (OLC) announced a collaboration to launch Disney Cruise Line in Japan. OLC will build and operate a Disney-branded ship, expected to debut in early 2029.

This new venture builds on the 40-year partnership between Disney and OLC, owner of Tokyo Disney Resort. The Japan based ship will offer cruises filled with Disney entertainment, exceptional service, and world-class dining, tailored for Japanese guests.

The new ship, to be built at Meyer Werft shipyard, will be a sister ship to the popular Disney Wish. It will feature familiar favorites with special modifications catering to Japanese preferences. The vessel will be approximately 140,000 gross tons and powered by liquefied natural gas, accommodating around 1,250 staterooms.

“Disney Cruise Line has ambitious plans to bring family vacations and Disney storytelling to more guests around the world than ever before,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman, Disney Experiences. “We are thrilled to continue the success of this expansion as we collaborate with Oriental Land Co. to introduce another distinctly Disney vacation experience to families and fans in Japan.”

More details about the maiden voyage, itineraries and onboard experiences will be announced at a later date.
