Revamped Disability Access System goes live at Disney World
Disney introduced its new Disability Access System today, May 20, 2024, at Walt Disney World.
To help all through the new process Disney World’s Disability Access System website contains details about the registration process and usage guidelines for those with developmental disabilities like autism or similar disorder, and are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended period of time.
The biggest change is that the current, in-park registration for the program is eliminated. Starting today, May 20, it will only by done through a live virtual video chat.
Disney has clarified that the DAS is intended to accommodate a small percentage of Guests who, due to a developmental disability like autism or similar, are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended period of time. The website also contains a variety of information exploring services for Guests with disabilities, including pre-arrival resources, downloadable guides and services available while visiting Walt Disney World Resort.
Here’s a look at the DAS changes:
- In-person registration is no longer available. Previously, guests could speak with Guest Relations Cast Members to register for DAS.
- DAS will now be valid for 120 days or the length of the ticket validity, whichever is shorter. Previously, DAS was valid for 30 days or when a new ticket was required.
- The advance planning option to select up to two attractions before arriving has been removed.
- Disney is teaming with Inspire Health Alliance’s health professionals, to help Cast Members, as needed, determine eligibility for appropriate accommodations and ensure that these accommodations are provided only for the guests for whom they are intended.
- Disney is adding more Cast Members and investing in specialized training to help guests identify and better understand tools and options, based on their needs.
- Hours to speak with a Cast Member for DAS registration have been shortened from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. down to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
