California to issue reopening guidelines for Disneyland this week

California state officials said they plan to release reopening guidelines for Disneyland and all theme parks in the state this week, according to the Orange County Register.

The California Department of Public Health is expected to release the guidelines. The guidelines may vary by county, Jesse Melgar, press secretary for Gov. Gavin Newsom to the Orange County Register.

Disney officials have been frustrated with the state, seeking reopening guidelines for weeks, without any response. Disney even held a safety briefing outlining what happened with the reopening of Walt Disney World and other Disney parks around the world.

This week, Disney announced it was laying off 28,000 cast members at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World due to the coronavirus pandemic. WARN Act layoff notices so far filed with Florida and California stated that 6,700 non-union employees would be part of the layoffs in Florida and 2,750 cast members in California.

The layoffs include cast members at both parks, in entertainment, the Walt Disney Travel Co., Walt Disney Imagineering, the Disney Vacation Club and employees at Orlando International Airport.
