Photo Tour: A look at Characters inside the Animation Courtyard at Hollywod Studios

The Magic of Disney Animation opens on Sept. 14 at Hollywood Studios, but the courtyard has been open for some time.

The centerpiece of the reimagined Animation Courtyard is a replica of the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California, capped with Mickey Mouse’s Sorcerer Hat. But the fun part of touring the courtyard is the character statues. So, let’s take a tour and find the characters.

Lucifer is the conniving, pampered pet cat of Lady Tremaine in Disney’s animated classic Cinderella (1950), best known for relentlessly chasing mice like Jaq and Gus to sabotage Cinderella’s chores.

Jaq (Left): Cinderella’s quick-witted, brave mouse companion who wears a red jacket and orange hat. He frequently serves as the leader of the mice, devising plans to gather dress supplies for Cinderella and retrieve the key to her locked room while dodging Lucifer the cat.

Gus (Center): Cinderella’s sweet, clumsy, and food-obsessed best friend (full name Octavius). Dressed in a yellow shirt and green cap, he is eager to help Cinderella despite his nervous disposition and tendency to get trapped in tricky situations.

Timothy Q. Mouse (Right): The loyal, energetic friend and mentor to Dumbo. Wearing his signature red circus ringmaster/marching band outfit and feather, Timothy stands up for Dumbo, encourages him to embrace his large ears, and helps him discover his ability to fly.

Mochi is lounging lazily on a roof ledge. Mochi is Aunt Cass and Hiro’s plump, easygoing calico cat from Disney’s Big Hero 6, best known for his relaxed nature and for being adorably dubbed a “hairy baby” by Baymax.

Pua (left) is Moana’s loyal, expressive, and puppy-like pot-bellied pig sidekick who remains behind on Motunui while supporting her journey from afar.

Thumper (right) is Bambi’s energetic, foot-thumping rabbit friend, famous for teaching young Bambi about the forest and sharing his father’s wise rule: “If you can’t say somethin’ nice, don’t say nothin’ at all.”

Jiminy Cricket is Pinocchio’s wise, top-hat-wearing insect companion who is appointed by the Blue Fairy to serve as the wooden boy’s official conscience, guiding him to be brave, truthful, and unselfish.

Here is a quick breakdown of these three classic avian sidekicks:

Diablo, the dark raven in the center, is Maleficent’s fiercely loyal pet and spy, who serves as her eyes and ears across the kingdom and is the only follower intelligent enough to locate Aurora’s hiding place.

Flanking Diablo are two of Cinderella’s friendly bluebird companions—dressed in tiny headscarves—who help her with daily chores and lead the effort to sew her original ballgown alongside Jaq and Gus.

Ray (short for Raymond) fom The Princess and the Frog is a hopeless romantic, Cajun-accented firefly who guides Tiana and Naveen through the bayou while hopelessly in love with the Evening Star, whom he affectionately names “Evangeline.”
