Festive facts about Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle

From the sparkling icicles adorning the breathtaking Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle to the many uniquely decorated trees across the Disneyland Resort and thousands of seasonal flowers, no detail is too small when decorating the resort for the holidays.

Let’s take a closer look at Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle. The castle is illuminated each evening with more than 25,000 twinkling LED lights on sparkling “icicles” and shimmering snow-capped turrets.

Specialized sparkle strobe lights are intertwined within the holiday garlands and icicles that decorate the castle. These lights create the magic of “enchanted” snow atop the castle.

The castle was inspired by several different European castles, most notably the famed Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, with elements from famous French chateaus, such as the Château d’Ussé, Château de Pierrefonds, Château de Chaumont and the Château de Chenonceau, among others.

The sparkling lights on the castle is something missing now at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World now. The icicles have been replaced by projections.
