18 photos looking at Walt Disney World’s 52nd anniversary

Walt Disney World is celebrating its 52nd anniversary today. On Oct. 1, 1971, the original theme park – The Magic Kingdom – opened to the public at 10 a.m.

Attendance for the first day was 10,442. Opening day attractions included the Country Bear Jamboree, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, The Hall of Presidents, the Haunted Mansion, it’s a small world, Jungle Cruise, Mad Tea Party, Peter Pan’s Flight, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, Snow White’s Scary Adventures, Swiss Family Treehouse, Tomorrowland Speedway, Walt Disney World Railroad, and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. The Contemporary and Polynesian resorts also opened on this day, as did the Monorail, connecting them to the Magic Kingdom.
