Florida Governor will ‘forbid’ businesses from requiring vaccine passports
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he will issue an executive order “forbidding” businesses and local governments from requiring “vaccine passports,” which would show proof that a person received a COVID-19 vaccine.
The vaccine passport could be used in the workplace, in school or for international travel and tourism.
“It’s completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society,” DeSantis said.
DeSantis is also calling on the Republican-led state legislature to send him a measure of some sort against vaccine passports that he could sign. He had no specifics on what type of legislation.
No current vaccine passports exist in the U.S.
The comments from the governor came after he signed a bill that will provides businesses, governments and health care providers protection from coronavirus lawsuits if they made a good effort to follow guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In order for a lawsuit to move ahead, a plaintiff would have to show that the defendant deliberately ignored guidelines and would need a signed affidavit from a doctor stating with reasonable certainty that injury or death caused by COVID-19 was a result of the defendant’s actions.
