Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom interactive game will end Jan. 24

Walt Disney World is closing down The Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom interactive card game Jan. 24, 2021,  due to decreased demand for this experience, according to Disney.

Debuting in 2012, the game takes people to various places at Magic Kingdom to battle Disney Villains using various game cards. But, as Disney has pushed guests to use the Play Disney App and people are using their mobile devices more, the game’s popularity has subsided.

The interactivity used with cards can now be accomplished with the app. Take for example the various missions you can go on at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios using the app.

The cards, however, were unique. In the game, you would use the cards to stop Hades’ evil plan to make Magic Kingdom park his new summer home. He enlisted a brigade of Disney baddies—Cruella, Scar, Jafar, Maleficent, Ursula, Yzma, Ratcliffe and Dr. Facilier—to help track down 4 enchanted crystal shards, which are hidden throughout the park. It’s up to you to foil their plans and save the day.

The various cards help create spells you would use while visiting one of the 20 various portals throughout the park. Special cards were available during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

The Main Street Firehouse, which is the central location to obtain Marlin’s mystical map and spell card, will be closed for a brief refurbishment when the game ends.
