12 Disney anniversaries to celebrate in September 2020

One beloved character turns 90, a theme park celebrates its 15th anniversary and 10 years ago Tinker Bell received a special award. Here are dozen anniversaries to commemorate this September 2020.

September 1, 2005: The first book in Ridley Pearson’s “The Kingdom Keepers” series is released. “Disney After Dark” is about five teens who find themselves at Walt Disney World after dark and must solve a riddle to save the park from the dark side of Walt Disney’s imagination. (15 anniversary)

September 2, 1985: Disneyland’s Adventure Thru Inner Space attraction closes in 
Tomorrowland. The attraction first opened in August 1967. The space would later be replaced by Star Tours. (35th anniversary)

September 5, 1927: The first Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short “Trolley Troubles” is released. (93rd anniversary)

September 5, 1930: Pluto makes his first appearance in “The Chain Gang.” (90th anniversary)

September 11, 2015: Walt Disney World makes a major announcement. The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, a 20-year holiday tradition at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, will hold its final season from November 6 through January 3. (5th anniversary)

September 12, 2005: Hong Kong Disneyland opens. (15th anniversary)

September 14, 1980: The Mickey Mouse Revue, an audio-animatronic indoor stage show
 the Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland Theater at Walt Disney World closes after nearly nine years in
 operation. (40th anniversary)

September 19, 2010: Duffy the Bear makes his first appearance at the Disneyland Resort at a special event for Annual Passholders at Disney California Adventure. (10th anniverary)

September 21, 2010 – Tinker Bell is honored with the 2,418th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in conjunction with the release of the DVD “Disney’s Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue.” (10th anniversary)

September 22, 2015: The Indiana Jones themed Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar opened at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World.  Jock Lindsey, a character from the Indiana Jones’ films, was Indy’s pilot and sidekick. (5th anniversary)

September 23, 1980: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom opens. (40th anniversary)

September 24, 1985: The Lotus Blossom Cafe restaurant opens in Epcot’s China Pavilion. (35th anniversary)
