Disney’s Hollywood Studios adds 2 modified shows to reopening lineup
Walt Disney World has now added two modified shows to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, even though the theme park and the Actors Equity Association have not come to terms for performers to return to work.
Disney has brought back a modified Disney Junior Play and Dance show, and this weekend added The Disney Society Orchestra in place of The Beauty and the Beast on Stage at the Theater of the Stars.
Both shows are being produced without member s of the Actors Equity union, which is asking for daily COVID-19 tests of all performers. This is a request that Disney said it is not prepared to accommodate.
The Disney Junior Play and Dance is a 10-minutes show that has audience members designated to certain areas of the interior theater. A DJ plays music, provides dance and exercise moves with the help of Vampirina, Doc McStuffins, Timon, Mickey Mouse. The show takes place at 11:15 a.m. 12:35 p.m., 1:20 p.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. 4:15 p.m., 4:55 p.m. 5:35 p.m. and 6:20 p.m.
The Disney Society Orchestra, a six-piece band, play Disney and Pixar favorites, plus a little Star Wars cantina music, with the Beast, Beauty, Mrs. Potts, Chip, Cogsworth and Lumiere stopping by. This is about a 15-minute show that is taking place daily at 11:15 a.m. 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 1:45 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:10 p.m., 4:55 p.m. 5:35 p.m. and 6:20 p.m.
The shows add another set of needed diversions for guests. Due to the limited amount of rides at Hollywood Studios and the popularity of the ones that are there – in addition to the need for a group to find other things to do while waiting to ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – the two shows help spread out the very limited capacity crowds out even more.
