Aladdin goes into previews on Broadway starting February 2014

Disney’s 1992 animated classic “Aladdin” will be starting previews on Broadway starting in February 2014, according to broadwayworld.com.

Previews will begin at the the New Amsterdam Theatre Feb. 26 with a possible March 20, 2014 opening night.

The play has a pre-Broadway engagement at Toronto’s Ed Mirvish Theatre Nov. 1, 2013 to Jan. 5, 2014. The show features music by Alan Menken; lyrics by the late Howard Ashman, Tim Rice and Chad Beguelin with a book by Beguelin. Casey Nicholaw will direct and choreograph.

Toronto is the first staging of this full-length two-act Aladdin, it will include the five songs from the film in addition to others.

Previous live versions included Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular at Disney California Adventure, regional productions of the show licensed and versions of the script which have been available to schools.

Aladdin will be designed by six-time Tony winning scenic designer Bob Crowley, three-time Tony winning lighting designer Natasha Katz, two-time Tony winning costume designer Gregg Barnes and sound designer Ken Travis.
