The one famous movie part Mickey Mouse turned down
There are many times celebrities turned down major movie roles.
Gwenyth Paltrow turned down the role of Rose in “Titanic.” Will Smith passed on Neo in “The Matrix.” Sean Connery decided not to play Gandolf in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Even Mickey Mouse turned down a role that would have made him part of a famous dancing duo.
The movie was the 1945 “Anchors Aweigh” starring Gene Kelly, which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Musical.
In the most famous sequence in the film Geney Kelly was originally meant to dance with Mickey Mouse in a three-minute sequence. However, Walt Disney refused to have Mickey appear in an MGM film. After all, Mickey was a huge star in his own right.
Instead, Kelly turned to the MGM list of stars and replaced Mickey with another mouse – Jerry Mouse of Tom and Jerry fame.
Mickey never looked back. He next appeared in the 1947 short film “Squatter’s RIghts” about a confrontation between Pluto and Chip and Dale at Mickey’s hunting shack. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. However, it lost to – Tom and Jerry and their short “The Cat Concerto.”
