
7 major announcements made for Disneyland, Disney World and Disneyland Paris
Opening dates for new rides and hotels, new roller coasters unveiled, and additional information on long-awaited attractions were announced this weekend at the D23 Expo Japan at Tokyo Disney Resort.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek during his presentation at the event made these seven major announcements:
1. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway: The Mickey-themed ride will open at Hollywood Studios at Disney World in the beginning of 2019. The ride will feature an original story as it takes guests into a Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts. New technologies will transform the two-dimensional cartoon world into an incredible multi-dimensional experience.
2. Guardians of the Galaxy Attraction: The new Marvel-themed ride in Epcot at Disney World will be one of the longest enclosed roller coasters in the world, Disney announced. It will open in 2021 in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World. The ride is based on the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies.
3. Star Wars-themed hotel: The new Star Wars-themed hotel at Hollywood Studios in Disney World will be connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the new land set to open in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Unlike anything that exists today, the new luxury resort will completely immerse guests in an authentic Star Wars story. The journey through space begins the moment guests arrive, as everyone boards a starship and departs together for a multi-day Star Wars adventure. An opening date for the new hotel has not been announced.
4. Pixar Pier: An opening date has been announced for the new Pixar Pier at California Adventure in Disneyland. It will open June 23, 2018. The opening of Pixar Pier will also include the Incredicoaster. This the re-imagining of California Screamin roller coaster. The new coaster is a combination of character figures, lighting and special effects focusing on the Par family from the Incredibles.
Another area focuses on the “Toy Story” with Toy Story Mania! attraction. The third new neighborhood will be inspired by “Inside Out” and will feature an “Inside Out” attraction, scheduled to open at a later date. The fourth new neighborhood will celebrate a collection of Pixar stories. Mickey’s Fun Wheel will transform into a newly-themed Pixar attraction, allowing guests to enjoy the sights of Pixar Pier from 24 new gondolas that will feature beloved Pixar pals. The midway games will also be inspired by Pixar characters, including favorites from “A Bug’s Life,” “La Luna” and “WALL·E”.
5. New Marvel roller coaster: The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at the Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris will be transformed into a Marvel Superhero roller coaster featuring Iron Man and the Avengers.
6. The Art of Marvel resort: The new Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel at Disneyland Paris will open in 2020 showcasing the worlds of Iron Man, The Avengers, and Spider-Man, among others in the style of a contemporary art gallery. The above concept image was released.
7. New Japan trip: Adventures by Disney announced there will be a new Japan vacation being made available in 2019. The trip will include immersive, cultural experiences, such as visiting temples in Kyoto, learning sword techniques with a master samurai and exploring Tokyo. Booking for the trip will open in the Spring.
