Disney World to host NBA version of Little League World Series championship
The NBA is creating a first-of-its-kind global youth basketball tournament this year and the new Jr. NBA World Championship tournament will be played at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World.
Think of this as the NBA version of the Litlle League World Series.
The tournament will feature boys and girls divisions, each comprised of 16 regional champions. Eight of the champions will come from the U.S. and eight will be international teams. This is a 14 and under tournament.
The championship will be played Aug. 7- 12, 2018 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The teams representing each region will be separated into U.S. and international brackets that include round-robin competition followed by single-elimination boys and girls tournaments. Winners of the U.S. and international brackets will play in the boys and girls championship games.
In the summer of 2019, the NBA Experience will open at Disney Springs in Disney World. It is on the site of the former DisneyQuest and will include interactive games and competitions, immersive experiences, a retail store and an adjacent restaurant.
