Animal checklist for Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World

From the majestic Kilimanjaro Safaris to the intricate pathways of the Maharajah Jungle Trek, Disney’s Animal Kingdom offers unparalleled opportunities to connect with incredible creatures from around the globe.

Everyone’s a wildlife explorer at Animal Kingdom. Once you enter the park, you can join the quest to spot over 2,000 animals representing more than 200 species. Whether you’re a fan of something small like the Bamboo Shrimp, or something tall like the Masai Giraffe, there’s something to amaze everyone. There’s even a tall, colorful bird you can find roaming around the park called Kevin, from Pixar’s “Up.”

While you can find incredible creatures throughout the park, some areas are especially rich with wildlife:

  • Kilimanjaro Safaris takes you on a journey to see many of the biggest animals, including elephants, zebras, rhinos, lions, and cheetahs.
  • Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail brings you closer to a Nile hippopotamus and a family of gorillas.
  • Maharajah Jungle Trek is home to the Komodo dragon and the Sumatran tiger.
  • Rafiki’s Planet Watch not only allows you to pet some animals but also get up close with some slithering and crawling creatures.

For an even more memorable experience, be sure to talk to the cast members at the animal enclosures. They’re a wealth of knowledge and can share fun facts, names, and unique personality traits about the animals they care for.

Looking ahead, the park is undergoing a major transformation with the upcoming Tropical Americas section, which is set to open in 2027. This new area, replacing the former DinoLand U.S.A., will introduce exciting attractions and is expected to feature a diverse array of animals appropriate to the region.
