Star Wars Launch Bay out, “Magic of Disney Animation” in at Hollywood Studios
Star Wars: Launch Bay at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be reimagined into “The Magic of Disney Animation,” opening in 2026. Disney is touting that this new experience will become a vibrant hub where guests of all ages can immerse themselves in the whimsical world of Disney animation.
To facilitate this exciting transformation, Animation Courtyard and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will close beginning Sept. 25, 2025. During this period, guests can still enjoy Ariel’s adventures in “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” and explore the exhibits and film presentation at Walt Disney Presents.

The centerpiece of this new area will be Mickey’s iconic Sorcerer Hat, reminiscent of the original structure in California and one that was in front of the Chinese Theatre at Hollywood Studios for years. Inside “The Magic of Disney Animation,” the story begins with animators temporarily stepping away, allowing characters to spring to life and invite guests to play in a lively, interactive take on the legendary Disney Animation headquarters.
Visitors will wander through silly versions of various studio departments, each taken over by Disney pals ready to create fun adventures. Expect playful and interactive moments around every corner, including portraits that come to life, inspired by Disney Animation’s “Once Upon A Studio.” Guests can also look forward to a short film with a twist and the chance to pencil in some time to learn how to draw their very own character sketch.
The magic of the Sorcerer’s Hat will extend beyond the building’s walls, as the entire courtyard will be reimagined into “The Walt Disney Studios,” drawing inspiration from the authentic buildings found in Burbank, California. This special homage to the Walt Disney Studios Lot will include a version of the Studio Theater, which will continue to house “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.” Over at the soundstage, a fresh Disney Jr. show will debut, promising new entertainment for younger guests.

The courtyard will contain lush trees and guests will be encouraged to look closely, as they “never know who you might see playing in the branches, soaking up the sun or digging in the grass,” according to Disney.
This change brings the area back to its roots. Long before Star Wars Launch Bay transported guests to a galaxy far, far away, the Animation Courtyard was home to The Magic of Disney Animation. This walk-through attraction, which opened with the park in 1989, offered a unique glimpse into the artistry behind Disney’s animated classics. Guests were able to witness Disney animators at work, learn about the animation process, and even try their hand at drawing. The attraction closed in July 2015 and was replaced by Star Wars Launch Bay in December 2015.
