“For 20 years runDisney medals have set the standard in the running industry,” Faron Kelley, Director of Marketing and Communication for Disney Sports, said in a news release. “This medal builds on that rich tradition and is an extraordinary keepsake that celebrates the 20 years of marathon experiences for people from around the world who have run in this time-honored event.”

Those running in the marathon during the big weekend, Jan. 10-13, 2013, will go past some new sites.
The event will start at Epcot and go through the three other parks, but for the first time runners will go through the Walt Disney World Speedway track and later go to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and through Champion Stadium, where the Atlanta Braves hold spring training.

There will also be special entertainment placed around mile and a post-race party at Downtown Disney.

The special Marathon Weekend will also have events for the family such as the Kids’ Races, including the Mickey Mile, a Family Fun Run 5K on Friday, the Half Marathon on Saturday and the Marathon on Sunday.

As of today: The marathon is 82 percent full, the half-marathon is 73 percent full, the Family Fun Run is 51 percent full and Goofy’s Race and Half Challenge is 88 percent full. Registration can be done at runDisney.com.
