Florida suspends drinking at bars due to surging COVID-19 cases
Florida is now suspending drinking at bars Florida, Halsey Beshears, the secretary of the Department of Business & Professional Regulation, announced as the state’s daily COVID-19 case numbers skyrockted.
This move also takes place a few days after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis threatened to pull the liquor licenses from bars that didn’t follow the state’s reopening guidelines. Several bars around the state closed after a number of coronavirus cases outbreaks were traced back to the bars.
The announcement comes as The Florida Department of Health reported a record 8,942 new coronavirus cases. Just the day before, Florida reported record for a single-day increase of 5,508 cases.
The state also reported 39 additional deaths to bring the state toll to 3,366.
