Look Back: Tapestry of Nations parade at Epcot brings in new century

Celebrating the turn of the century Disney created a special parade at Epcot in Disney World focusing on a theme of unity and world peace.

The Tapestry of Nations parade kicked off Oct. 1, 1999, and lasted through Sept. 9, 2001 around the World Showcase Lagoon.

The most stunning part of the parade were the large puppets and rotating drum units. Michael Curry, who later when on to design the puppets for “The Lion King” on Broadway and some other Disney theme park shows, designed the puppets for the parade.

Leading the parade was the Sage of Time, a stilt walker in an elaborate costume.

From 2001 through 2003 the parade was renamed Tapestry of Dreams.
