7 new details released about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Star Wars Celebration

A panel of Disney Imagineers and Lucasfilm storytellers came together at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago today help fill in a few more details on what to expect when the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens at Disneyland Resort on May 31 and at Walt Disney World Resort on Aug. 29.

Here’s a quick look:

1. There are two attractions opening in this 14-acre land. Rise of the Resistance (more below) and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler Run. Asa Kalama, executive creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering, gave everyone this rundown on the Millenium Falcon ride.

Before you climb aboard you will see the Millennium Falcon parked outside. When you go inside, you will be able to control the Millennium Falcon. The pilot can steer the ship left or right and up and down. If you crash into anything alarms will go off and sparks will fly. It will be up to the engineers in back to keep the ship in working order. As the TIE fighters attack it will be up to the gunners in the middle to work the lasers and blasters to defend the ship.

Your actions will determine the fate of the ship. You will be able to tell how you did not when the ride is over, but when you leave the cockpit to walk down the iconic hallway of the ship. The hallway will look different depending on how well your crew did.

If you had a clean run the hallway will be in pristine condition. If you banged up the ship and taken a volley of laser blasts you will find lights broken, alarms going off, sparks flying and chatter about the incredible damage you caused to the ship.

2. New concept art was released showing the exterior of the Rise of the Resistance attraction. This attraction will not open immediately when the lands open. It will open at a later date. This will be one of the most complex attraction experiences ever built by Disney. The attraction will be located outside the village in a forested area among the ancient ruins. On the ride you will encounter Kylo Ren, Rey, Poe and BB-8 among others.

3. Coca-Cola products will be sold inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, but will have a new look. The design is based on the ideas that everything built on Batuu is reclaimed and restored from items around the planet or are pulled off a ship and repurposed.

4. There will be a lot of familiar voices you will hear when walking through Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Frank Oz will voice Yoda, who you will hear at various points in the new land, Jim Cummings reprises his voice of Hondo Ohnaka (above) who will set you on your way in the new Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction and Paul Reubens returns as DJ Rex (remember Rex our favorite pilot from Star Tours, he will be back DJing in Oga’s Cantina.

5. The lightsaber store inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be different from the ones outside the land. This store will allow you to make your own and personalize it so it will be a one-of-a-kind lightsaber.

6. Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities will be filled with artifacts from throughout the Star Wars galaxy. Since all of Star Wars takes place in one timeline, it will be possible to have various items from throughout all of the movies, TV shows and books, including ancient Jedi and Sith artifacts, lightsabers, and anything else of value.

7. Finally new images of the construction of the Disneyland version were released.
