Avengers: Infinity War breaks major opening weekend records
“Avengers: Infinity War” broke opening weekend box office and worldwide opening records bigger than initially reported.
“Avengers: Inifinty War” opened with a $257.7 million box office take domestically and $640.4 million worldwide. It bested the previous record of $247.9 million set by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
The $382.7 million international debut was the second largest of all time. The Fate of the Furious’s debuted with $443 million, but that also included opening in China. Infinity War opens in China on May 11. It opens in Russia on May 3.
“Avengers: Infinity War” posted the highest opening weekend in industry history in Korea, India (western), Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Brazil, Central America, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, South Africa, Turkey (non-local), UAE and West Africa.
With the $640.4 million opening weekend, Marvel Studios’ 19 releases have now amassed a $15.48 billion to date. This weekend also marked a new milestone for “Black Panther,” which passed “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” to claim the No. 9 all-time global spot with an estimated global cumulative box office of $1.333 billion.
