Disney sets new release dates for next Star Wars and Pirates Of The Caribbean films

Disney has changed the movie release dates for two of its biggest franchises – Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Star Wars: Episode VIII, originally scheduled for release on May 26, 2017, will now debut on Dec. 15, 2017. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales ” will now move up and take the May 27 release slot. It was originally supposed to come out in theaters on July 7, 2017, Disney announced.


Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently in pre–production and will begin principal photography in London next month. Rian Johnson wrote and is directing the film. J.J. Abrams who resurrected the films by writing and directing Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” will executive produce.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is close to reaching the $2 billion mark in box office receipts worldwide.

Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Geoffrey Rush is back as Barbossa, Orlando Bloom as Will Turner with a new adversary, Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, the film is currently in post-production.
