4 big attraction refurbishments begin today at Walt Disney World

Four big attraction refurbishments begin today – Jan. 9 – at Walt Disney World, one at Magic Kingdom, another at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, one at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the fourth at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Annual refurbishments are a standard process as rides need to be taken down for enhanced maintenance. This time of the year when Disney normally takes down its water rides for extensive refurbishment and that includes Kali River Rapids.

Here’s a look at the four attractions that will be closed as of today:

Jan. 9-Jan. 13: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom will be closed for refurbishment starting on Jan. 9 and reopening on Jan. 14. 

Jan. 9-27: The Frozen Sing-Along at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be closing for refurbishment. It will reopen starting on Jan. 28. 

Jan. 9 – Mid-March 2023: Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will close and go through a multi-month refurbishment.

Jan. 9 – April 2023: The feature pool and whirlpool spas at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be closed for refurbishment. The water play area and Bay Lake Pool will remain open. Guests may see and hear construction noise while this refurbishment is underway, but you should not hear noise from Guest rooms between dusk and 9 a.m.
