September was one of the warmest, driest on record in Orlando

If you were visiting Disney World last month and thought it was too hot and uncomfortable, well, you were right. It was one of the warmest and driest Septembers on record across East Central Florida, according to the National Weather Service.

A dominant ridge aloft across the southeast U.S. during September helped block any early season cold fronts from reaching the area. This meant average temperatures for the month were around 2 to 3 degrees above normal for most sites across east central Florida.

Orlando had a monthly average temperature of 83.4 degrees Fahrenheit in September, which was 2.3 degrees above normal. This ranks as the 3rd warmest average temperature for September on record at this site, with records extending back to 1892, according to the weather service.

The high temperatures for the day went reached  90 degrees or above for 25 of the 30 days.

And if you thought you would get relief at night, that wasn’t the case at all. Orlando tied the warm low on four of the 30 nights during the month.

Specifically:

September 5: Tied record warm low of 77 degrees last set in 1932.

September 13: Tied record warm low of 77 degrees last set in 1988.

September 18: Tied record warm low of 76 degrees last set in 2016.

September 28: Tied record warm low of 77 degrees last set in 1903.

The October forecast, for now, show temperatures slowly returning back to the normal average of 85 degrees for the high by the middle of the month.
