The 8 big things happening at Disney World this August 2022

Zombies, Halloween, new foods debuting, a couple of refurbishments and the return of magic makeovers are all things to look forward to in August 2022 at Walt Disney World.

In addition, Disney is expecting the the return of many of the International Cultural Representatives normally found around EPCOT at the various country pavilions as the program restarts. The phased re-introduction will start in Germany, Norway, Italy, France, UK, and Canada for World Showcase at EPCOT.

Here’s a look at eight big things to watch for at Disney World”

1. ZOM-BEATZ BASH – Aug. 5-14

A new dance-filled 20-minute stage show ZOM-BEATZ BASH featuring music from “ZOMBIES,” and “ZOMBIES 2″ is coming to Disney Springs at the Disney Springs Marketplace Stage on Aug. 5 – 14. This is all happening as “ZOMBIES 3” premieres July 15 on Disney+ and August 12 on Disney Channel. The ZOM-BEATZ BASH DJ-hosted event features some zombie dance moves, a sing-along to favorite songs and a “ZOMBIES 3” inspired photo wall.

2. Halloween Kicks at Magic Kingdom – Aug. 12-Oct. 31

After a two-year hiatus, Disney is bringing back the popular Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this summer and fall with the “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” stage show, Halloween parade and fireworks. The party, with ticket prices ranging from $109 to $199, will run on 37 select nights from Aug. 12 through Oct. 31 at the Magic Kingdom from 7 p.m. to midnight. 

The event includea:

  • The Headless Horseman will ride his ghostly steed down Main Street, U.S.A. as a prelude to Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade,” which features floats filled with Disney Characters dressed in their Halloween bestDisney villains and the Haunted Mansion graveyard diggers.  
  • During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, guests can go trick-or-treating for M&M’S, SKITTLES, SNICKERS, and other Halloween favorites at locations throughout Magic Kingdom . And new this year, guests will also receive a reusable trick-or-treat bag featuring a keepsake 50th Anniversary celebration and Halloween design. 
  • The Sanderson Sisters return with the “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” stage show at Cinderella Castle as they call upon their frightening colleagues to conjure the ultimate “Hocus Pocus” Party Potion.   
  • Celebrate the season alongside favorite Disney characters as they take over the park for their favorite party of the year.  
  • Overlays themed for the occasion will return to several popular Magic Kingdom attractions: Space Mountain, Mad Tea Party, Pirates of the Caribbean and Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor. 
  • The Pumpkin King himself, Jack Skellington, will host “Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular.” This can’t-miss nighttime extravaganza features projections, special effects and lighting mixed with fireworks, music and Disney characters.  
  • Discover sweet and savory menu items inspired by fall flavors and the Halloween season.   
  •  In honor of the 50th Anniversary celebration, we’re adding even more fun to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this year in the form of event-exclusive step-in photo opportunities. And in addition to the reusable trick-or-treating tote bag, guests will also receive a Halloween-themed 50thAnniversary celebration commemorative print. 

3. Four More Food Booths Open at Food and Wine – Aug. 15

Four more food booths are scheduled to open during the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival. The festival opened on July 19 and lasts through Nov. 19. These are the last food booths scheduled to open:

  • Coastal Eats – Savor succulent seafood dishes that pair beautifully with cold beer, wine and cocktails.
  • Hawaiʻi – Traverse the Pacific for tropical flavors and island favorites both savory and sweet.
  • Mac & Eats –Discover macaroni-and-cheese combos your mom never imagined.
  • The Noodle Exchange – Savor the flavors of the Far East served up in delicious noodle dishes.

4. Kona Cafe closing for refurbishment – Aug. 15

Beginning August 15, 2022, Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be closing for a refurbishment.  Once the restaurant closes, Guests will still be able to the Mobile Order service through the My Disney Experience app to order select breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings from Kona Island.

5. Department of Defense Warrior Games – Aug. 19-28

The 2022 Department of Defense Warrior Games, hosted by the U.S. Army’s Training and Doctrine Command, will be held for the first time at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World from Aug. 19-28. Hundreds of elite-athletes, including those from international allied nations, will compete in adaptive sporting events such as wheelchair basketball, cycling, indoor rowing, and sitting volleyball among others during the games.

6. Frozen Sing-Along Closed for Refurbishment – Aug. 22 – Sept. 17

For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration at Hollywood Studios in Disney World is scheduled to close for refurbishment starting Augst 22. It is now scheduled to reopen on Sept. 17, 2022.

 7. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – Reopens August 25

The magic makeovers at Walt Disney World return on August 25, 2022, with the return of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Cast members will transform guests ages 3 to 12 into some of their favorite Disney characters with hairstyling, makeup, costumes and accessories. Additional options will also be available, including more options to choose from, including a new hair accessory specially designed for textured hair and new costumes featuring some of Disney’s newest heroes and heroines coming later this year. 

8. Hollywood & Vine Buffet returns – Aug. 28

Hollywood & Vine will be welcoming back its buffet on August 28. As you get to meet some of your favorite Disney Junior pals for breakfast and Minnie and her friends for lunch and dinner, you’ll be able to feast upon all-you-care-to-enjoy delights. For breakfast, this spot will be serving up options like Brioche French Toast with Banana Foster Sauce, Salmon and Bagel Casserole, and Plant-based Frittata with tomato jam. As the day goes on and Minnie and the gang come out to play, the buffet will switch over to Plant-based Roasted Mushroom Farro Risotto, Slow-roasted Crispy Pork Belly with Guava glaze, and Shrimp and Bacon Mac & Cheese. And desserts include Mississippi Mud Pie or the PB&J Tarts.
