Disney Parks to honor Walt Disney on 50th anniversary of his death
The Disney Parks are going all out to honor the legacy of Walt Disney this week with “Walt Week: Celebrating a Legacy of Imagination, Creativity, and Innovation.”
Dec. 15 marks the 50th anniversary of Disney’s passing and the D23: The Official Disney Fan Club is honoring Disney with a series of features available to guests at D23.com/WalkWithWalt, in its quarterly publication Disney twenty-three, and at Disney Parks around the world, the Disney Parks Blog reports.
Walter EliasDisney was born on Dec. 5, 1901 in Illinois. He and his brother, Roy. co-founded Walt Disney Productions. On Dec. 15,1966, just 10 days after his 65th birthday, Disney died of circulatory collapse caused by lung cancer. He was a life-long smoker. His remains were cremated two days later, and his ashes interred at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif.
On Dec. 15, guests at the following Disney resorts: Disneyland, Disney World, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland and Tokyo Disney will be able to share messages on Memory Boards that will be placed at each resort. The boards will be on display for all to see at D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, from July 14–16 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
The locations and time for the memory boards are:
Disneyland: The gallery inside the Main Street Opera House at Disneyland park from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m
Disney World: Inside One Man’s Dream at Hollywood Studios from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Disneyland Paris: Inside the Liberty Arcade on Main Street, U.S.A., at the entrance of “Statue of Liberty Tableau” from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Hong Kong Disneyland: Inside Art of Animation on Main Street, U.S.A., from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Tokyo Disney: Mark Twain Riverboat queue from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
