Disney is taking a successful duo from the popular Disney+ streaming show to the big screens. The Mandalorian and Grogu will star in a new movie that most likely won’t hit the screens until 2025.
Directed by Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni, “The Mandalorian & Grogu” will go into production in 2024, according to the Starwars.com website.
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” added Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.
“The Mandalorian” has us follow the journeys of the once bounty hunter, Din Djarin, who protects the Force-sensitive child Grogu, now Din Grogu, (who is the same species as Yoda) from remnant Imperial forces. He goes on to cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.
