TRON Lightcycle / Run opening on April 4 at Disney World

After having some fun and providing a few clues via social media, Disney today announced that TRON Lightcyle/Run, the latest rollercoaster or Magic Kingdom, will open on April 4, 2023.

The coaster, located next to Space Mountain in the Tomorrowland section of Magic Kingdom, took nearly four yeas to build due to COVID-19 shutdown and other issues Disney was tackling. The attraction is similar to the one that opened at Shanghai Disneyland on Jun 16, 2016.

The new attraction picks up following the events of ‘TRON: Legacy,’ whose main character, Sam Flynn, is now opening new gateways into this digital realm at specific locations around the world. The first portal he created is at Shanghai Disneyland with the original TRON Lightcycle Power Run, and now Magic Kingdom guests will get their turn through this second gateway.

“When you enter the attraction’s queue, you’ll feel as if you’re digitized and entering the Grid for a special Lightcycle race alongside your family and friends,” according to Disney. “You’ll all join Team Blue (hence the color of the wheels) for a high-speed launch into a competition against Team Orange. As you swoop and swerve your way around the course, your goal is to be the first to race through eight Energy Gates and secure your victory. Will your team have what it takes?”

Before the attraction officially opens, cast members will be the first to enter the Grid during special previews and then there will be preview opportunities for Annual Passholders and eligible Disney Vacation Club Members.

The coaster track is about 3,170 feet long and reaches a speed of about 59 mph. It’s about a 2-minute ride. The attraction most likely will most likely start out with a virtual queue as most of the new rides have at Walt Disney World in the past few years, but none of that information has been made public yet.
