The requirement for international air travelers to the U.S. to take a COVID-19 test a day before boarding a flight will be lifted starting June 12, the Associated Press is reporting.
The change will make it easier for international travelers to come to the U.S. and should be beneficial for Walt Disney World and other tourist destinations in the U.S. The number of guests at Disney World in the past has normally been up to 20% international and 80% domestic.
Airline and tourism groups have been pressing the Biden administration to eliminate the testing requirement for months saying it was discouraging people from booking international trips. Other countries have lifted their testing requirements for fully vaccinated and boosted travelers.
According to the AP, a senior administration official said the mandate expires on June 12 at 12:01 a.m. EDT. The official, speaking to the AP on the condition of anonymity to preview the formal announcement, saying the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has determined that it’s no longer necessary. They said the CDC will reevaluate the need for the testing requirement every 90 days and that it could be reinstated if a troubling new variant emerges.
