Photos: Baby Nutmeg adds a little spice to the Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney World is introducing Nutmeg, the second babirusa piglet born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The baby spent some time backstage with mom bonding before being brought out for public display. She has made herself a home in The Oasis area of the park, according to Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment , which shared the news on Facebook.

The keepers are keeping her busy by leaving a lot of enrichment items for her to find.

Babirusa pigs are a vulnerable species threatened by habitat destruction, making her birth a great contribution to their conservation. The first baby babirusa born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom was in May 2020 and is named Kirana, which translates to “sunbeam” in Indonesian.

Babirusas are part of the hog family, native to the swamps and rainforests of the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi, Togian, Sula, and Buru. They are known for their unique snouts and magnificent tusks that can grow up to almost 17 inches.

Babirusa means “pig-deer” in the Malay language.
