Being a military spouse myself, I understand how important vacations are to military families. That limited time you get to spend together is priceless and you want to make the most of your time. That is probably why Walt Disney World is such popular place to visit on vacation.
I also understand that there are often questions about what discounts or offers are available to military personnel. After spending a couple of years as a travel agent I want to address the most important information – what the offers actually are and whom they are applicable to.
I want to start off by saying that Walt Disney World is incredibly detailed in the offers they have for military members as well as very specific on who is eligible for these offers. Because of this it is good to be fully equipped with all the information. Hopefully, this article will clear up any confusion and help you take advantage of these offers that Disney has extended to service members and their families.
As mentioned, Walt Disney World is specific on who is eligible for the offers they have for military members. This includes:
- Current military members
- Retired members include active duty
- Reservists
- National Guard
- Coast Guard
- Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service (PHS)
- Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
- Disabled veterans
- Foreign partners stationed at a US base that have a US military issued ID
While they are not entitled to their own discounts, spouses of eligible service members may use the discount in place of the service member. Since it can be a little confusing on who is eligible for these military discounts, below is a picture of the military IDs that qualify. Some military IDs have been recently updated by the DOD and may look different than pictured below.
Now that we have gone over who is eligible for these offers, let’s get started with Walt Disney World Resorts and the room discount that is available.
Eligible military members or their spouses can reserve up to three (3) rooms with the military promotional room offer. The member or spouse must occupy one of those rooms and all rooms must be at the same resort, with the same check-in date. Like any offer, it is based off availability. A select number of rooms are set aside at participating resorts for the military room discount and that number can be limited.
Typically, your total discount is determined by what resort category you book:
- Up to 15% off for value resorts
- Up to 20% off for moderate resorts
- Up to 25% for off for deluxe resorts.
There are exclusions to this offer, such as 3-bedroom villas, campsites, Cabins at Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, The Little Mermaid Rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation, Bungalows at Disney Polynesian Villas, Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
This offer cannot be combined with any other offers from Disney. For 2022, the offer runs from Jan. 1 through Dec. 16, 2022, with April 10-April 23, 2022, and Nov. 20-Nov. 26, 2022, being blacked out. It is important to note that in order to book the military offer you must call Walt Disney World direct or use a travel agent; this offer is not available to be booked online via their website. A valid military ID is required at check-in.
