Expedition Everest to undergo lengthy refurbishment starting in January
Expedition Everest will undergo a multi-month refurbishment at the beginning of 2022, according to Disney.
The roller coaster in Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be closed starting Jan. 4, 2022, through sometime in mid-April.
It is unknown what the refurbishment will entail, but there is always hope the 25-foot tall Yeti inside the mountain might be fixed.
The giant audio-animatronic figure is supposed to reach out and seemingly grab riders as they pass by. But the hydraulic cylinders are so strong when it movies that it needed to be shut down soon after the attraction opened in 2006 because the movement split the figure’s framing which would cause a catastrophic malfunction.
Another Animal Kingdom attraction will be closed for refurbishment in November. Kali River Rapids will be closing starting Nov. 1, 2021. No reopening date has been announced.
