Concept art, storyline for “The Princess and Frog” retheming of Splash Mountain
The new attraction coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World that will replace Splash Mountain will focus on the events after “The Princess and the Frog” film, according to a video released by Disney (see below).
The attraction will take place after the final kiss as Naveen and Louis join Tiana on a trip through the bayou.
“Tiana invites us as the guests to go on an adventure with her in the bayou,” Charita Carter, Senior Creative Producer Walter Disney Imagineering said. “As guests, we are active participants in this adventure.”
“She takes us through this amazing journey where we get to discover not only the characters that we know and love from the film, but this is an opportunity to be introduced to some new characters,” Carter said.
A look at the new concept art actually shows Tiana leading the journey in the boat with Naveen paddling along and guests following in their boats.
“And of course, the adventure ends with the ultimate Mardi Gras party, because Tiana is throwing a party. It is the ultimate Mardi Gras party,” Carter said.
In addition to a new storyline, there will be a significant upgrade in the technology used for the attraction. “The way that we are approaching our Audio-Animatronic figures would be an example of how are looking to advance the storytelling and change the game, as well as the way we are approaching our scenic illusions and our visual effects so that we can create an immersive environment that is seamless for our guests,” Carter said.
There is no timetable as to when the changeover would begin.
