Disneyland to end temperature screenings starting June 15

Disneyland Resort will end its onsite temperature screenings for guests and Cast Members as of June 15, 2021, according to the Disneyland website.

The change is taking place as the state of California is preparing to fully reopen the economy on June 15. “Based on the advice of the CDC and our local health officials, and given Orange County is now in the Yellow Tier and the State of California is preparing to reopen the economy on June 15—the Disneyland Resort will end onsite temperature screenings for Guests and Cast Members starting June 15, 2021.”

California is removing nearly all its restrictions next month. California Health Director Dr. Mark Ghaly outlined the following, according to the Associated Press:

  • Social distancing will no longer be required.
  • Businesses can operate at full capacity.
  • Guidelines to wearing face masks will adjust to correspond to national guidelines.
  • The state will still recommend that organizers of outdoor events with more than 10,000 people require that attendees provide verification that they have been vaccinated or have tested negative for the coronavirus. Those who can’t or don’t provide the verification should be encouraged to wear masks.
  • The state will require vaccine verification or negative test results for indoor events with more than 5,000 attendees, but they can be “by self-attestation.”
  • State officials do not anticipate that they will create or require a vaccination “passport” or other formal verification.
  • California will follow federal CDC guidelines on traveling domestically and overseas. That means no more discouraging travel unless there are certain countries where visiting is not advised and no more voluntary quarantines when people return to California.

California was the first state to issue a statewide shutdown as the virus emerged in March 2020 and became the epicenter for the disease in early 2021. The state created a tier system on capacity. Now, the state is saying with the increase of vaccinations and decrease in cases and deaths, the state is ready to reopen on June 15.

There is an expectation that Disneyland will make additional announcements concerning capacity and operations returning to a more pre-COVID state soon.

“Since reopening, we have considered guidance from public health authorities, government agencies, and our own team of health and safety experts as we assess and update health and safety measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19,” Disney said on its website.
