Photos, Video: Otters return to enclosure at Animal Kingdom

Our favorite fun family has returned to their outdoor home at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The otters were displaced from their enclosure for two days as some work was taking place, but they are now back on display and exploring their home.

The family is finding a number of new smells from the work that took place and they are loving it, the animal keepers said as they observed the family.

These Asian small-clawed otters have an acute sense of smell. They communicate throughout their territory by rubbing their scent glands against trees, rocks and stumps.

They are found in southeast Asia throughout Indonesia, Philippines, southern India and China.

If you’ve ever wondered if they otters use the slide at the watering hole, the answer is no. According to the animal keepers, water slide is not slippery enough for the animals. (Photo by Steve Liebman)
