17 ‘The Simpsons’ Christmas episodes to watch this December

The holiday everyone might associate with “The Simpsons” is Halloween, after all, “The Treehouse of Horror” series is classic, but you should know The Simpsons have a long history of Christmas episodes.

In fact, the first full-length episode of “The Simpsons”- “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire” – was a Christmas episode. It was originally supposed to be eighth episode in the new series, but due to technical problems with the first episode this was subbed in.

In this episode,  Mr. Burns plans to cut Christmas bonuses, Marge has to spend the family’s Christmas savings to erase a tattoo Bart thought would make a great Christmas present, and when Homer learns he won’t be getting a Christmas bonus, life in Springfield gets even tighter. So what’s a breadwinner to do, except take a second job as a shopping mall Santa?

Over the next 31 seasons, The Simpsons have gone to a few extremes satirizing the commercialization of Christmas and parodying The Elf on The Shelf – do you remember the Gnome in Your Home?
