Baby Babirusa piglet now can be seen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

A 3-month-old babirusa piglet can now be seen with her mother on The Oasis at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The 25-pound piglet, Kirana, can be seen running around with her mother, Betty. As part of Kirana’s health care, she is weighed on a weekly basis. And, mom, Betty, taught Kirana to climb onto the scale, according to Disney.

Babirusas are part of the hog family, native to the swamps and rainforests of the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi, Togian, Sula, and Buru. They are known for their unique snouts and magnificent tusks that can grow up to almost 17 inches.

Babirusa means “pig-deer” in the Malay language.
