Why Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, other events needed to be canceled

As Walt Disney World reopens its theme parks stating July 11 we are finding out a number of seasonal events and shows are being canceled this year – including the favorite Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

While we are all disappointed that this taking place, in the world of COVID-19, Disney is trying to minimize the large gathering of crowds in one area and to keep social distancing.

The key portions of the event include the favorite “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular” stage show, “Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade” and “Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular,” fireworks. However, Disney will not be having any stage shows, parades or fireworks for the foreseeable future, so it only made sense for Disney to cancel this.

Other evens canceled such as Disney H2O Glow Nights, the nighttime special ticket event at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, also had numerous events that focused on large gatherings.

In addition, the popular Eat to the Beat Concert Series, which often plays to a packed house at the American Gardens Theatre will also be canceled this year.

Disney has said that those who have purchased tickets for those events will soon be getting refunds.

The big question will be about the future of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, which includes the Candlelight Processional. The decision on these events will take place a little later in the year.

“As always, our goal is to explore every option and look at ways in which we can still host events and festivals full of Disney magic, while still operating responsibly with the health and safety of our guests and cast members in mind,”  Laurel Slater, Manager of Communications, Walt Disney World Public Affairs, said on the Disney Parks Blog.
