Two Disney/Studio Ghibli films coming out on DVD in May
Two Disney/Studio Ghibli animated films have been announced for release on Blu-ray and DVD on May 21.
“Howl’s Moving Castlesoars” by 2001Academy Award winning director Hayao Miyazaki for Best Animated Feature “Spirited Away” is about Sophie, a quiet girl working in a hat shop, who is swept off her feet by a mysterious wizard named Howl. The Witch of the Waste, jealous of their friendship, puts a spell on Sophie. Sophie climbs aboard Howl’s flying castle and enters a magical world on a quest to break the spell. Featured voices include Christian Bale and Billy Crystal.
“My Neighbor Totoro,” is a special 25th anniversary release is also directed by Miyazaki and featured , the voice talents of Dakota and Elle Fanning, Tim Daly and Lea Salonga. The movie follows Satsuki and her four-year-old sister Mei as they discover their new neighbor is a mysterious forest spirit named Totoro who can only be seen by the eyes of a child.
Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation studio founded in 1986 by directors Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki. It has so far produced 17 films. Disney has the international rights to Ghibli’s films.
