Disney’s Aida on Broadway debuted 20 years ago – watch highlights

On March 23, 2000, Elton John and Tim Rice’s “Aida,” a Disney production premiered on Broadway going on to win four Tony Awards, including Best Original Score.

The show, based on Verdi’s classic opera by the same name, was Disney Theatrical Productions’ sixth production. The musical remained on Broadway for 1,852 performances through Sept. 5, 2004.

The original cast included Heather Headley as Aida, Adam Pascal as Radames, Sherie Rene Scott as Amneris and John Hickok as Zoser.
