Report: Disney World construction shut down due to coronavirus
The head of a Central Florida construction trade organization said construction operations at Walt Disney World have been stopped due to the coronavirus, according to the Orlando Business Journal.
It is unknown when operations would resume, said Mark Wylie, president and CEO of the Central Florida chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors Inc. told the business journal.
Disney World closed its theme parks Sunday night (see photos of what the empty theme parks) is in the process of shutting down Disney Springs today and all of the resorts by March 20, due to COVID-19.
Disney has stated that all of the closures are through March 31. However, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that crowds should be limited for eight weeks and now say people should not be in a crowd of 10 or more.
What this impact means for Disney at this point is unknown.
Disney World is in the middle of a major construction boom. In addition to touching up Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom, there is the construction of the Tron ride in the Magic Kingdom, completion of the France pavilion expansion with the Remy’s Ratatouille Ride, the front end of Epcot, as well as redoing security areas around the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Epcot.
