Hong Kong Disneyland also closing temporarily due to coronavirus
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has joined the Shanghai Disneyland Resort in temporarily closing due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.
Shanghai Disneyland closed on Jan. 25 and Disney the next day closed Hong Kong Disneyland after Hong Kong’s government declared a state of emergency.
“As a precautionary measure in line with prevention efforts taking place across Hong Kong, we are temporarily closing Hong Kong Disneyland Park starting from January 26, 2020 out of consideration for the health and safety of our Guests and Cast Members. The Hong Kong Disneyland Resort hotels will remain open. We are in close contact with health authorities and the government about the situation and will announce a reopening date once they determine it is advisable,” according to an official statement from Disney.
“The Standard Park Ticket is valid for six months from the purchase date. If needed, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort will assist in the refund for Guests who have purchased tickets for admission to Hong Kong Disneyland park or have booked a resort hotel. For additional details, please click here or email to guest@hongkongdisneyland.com,” the statement said.
This now means two of the six Disney resorts around the world are closed.
A coronavirus is a kind of common virus that causes an infection in your nose, sinuses, or upper throat, similar to the common cold. Other types of coronaviruses have caused severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) and Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome (Mers).
This is considered a novel coronavirus – meaning it has never been encountered before. The World Health Organization said it was first informed on Dec. 31, 2019, of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of an unknown cause in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China.
According to the World Health Organization, a total of 1,320 confirmed cases have been reported for novel coronavirus globally. Forty-one deaths have occurred due to the virus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on January 26 that is closely monitoring the coronavirus and have found five confirmed cases in the U.S. in four states (Arizona, California, Illinois and Washington), all of those people traveled from Wuhan City.
