Photo: Illuminations signature globe being demolished

Everyone was wondering what would happen to the famed Earth globe used in Illuminations: Reflections of Earth once the show ended on Sept. 30 and was replaced by Epcot Forever.

We now can see the answer from aerial photos taken by @bioreconstruct, the globe is being destroyed.

The aerial photos show the backstage area of Epcot and the globe being disassembled. The globe was 28 feet in diameter and was the world’s first spherical video display system, wrapping in over 15,000 LED clusters. It contained 258 strobe lights and was controlled by six computer processors.

As the globe made its final farewell on Sept. 30 many people speculated as to what might happen, even joking that it could be the final barge in the nighttime Electrical Water Pageant around the Seven Seas Lagoon, but alas, the globe is no more.
