Riders stuck on Disney World’s new Skyliner for up to 3 hours, some rescued by firefighters
The new Disney Skyliner at Disney World has broken down causing some people to be stuck in gondolas for up to three hours while others were rescued by the Reedy Creek Fire Department.
“One of the three Disney Skyliner routes experience and unexpected downtime Saturday evening. As a result, the Skyliner will be closed while we look into the details surrounding this downtime. We apologize for this situation and we are working with each guest individually regarding impacts to their visit with us,” according to a statement released by Disney.
The Skyliner opened on Sep. 29. The new transportation system links Epcot and Hollywood Studios with the Caribbean Beach, Art of Animation, Pop Century and the soon to open Riviera resorts.
Stranded guests were told to open up the emergency kits, which are located in each gondola. It contains water, cups, glow sticks and a note pad.
Ladders were used to rescue some of the guests from the gondolas, people reported on social media. The shutdown took place around 8 p.m. No specifics of the downtime have been announced by Disney. There is some speculation on social media that an issue took place at the Riviera station where vehicle 108 appears to have rolled back and crashed into a vehicle behind it.
The Skyliner went back into operation shortly after 11 p.m. allowing gondolas to reach stations and let passengers out. An army of Disney cast members
