12 major changes taking place at Disney World in September 2019
There are major changes taking place around Walt Disney World this September 2019 with a number of attractions and an entire section of a theme park closing.
We will be saying good-bye to a 20-year institution and hello to a new transportation system.
The list is long and the changes are extreme. Let’s take a look.
Disney Skyliner
1. The Disney Skyliner gondolas will start transporting guests on Sept. 29. The new Skyliner system connects Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and the new Disney’s Riviera Resort scheduled to open
Animal Kingdom
2. Lion King Scavenger Hunt, in the Harambe Village section where you find your favorite Lion King characters hidden around the area will end on Sept. 28, 2019.
3. “Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party,” will end Sept. 30, 2019.
EPCOT
4 .Illuminations: Reflections of Earth ends its 20-year run on Sept. 30, 2019. The current 14-minute long “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth,” debuted on Oct. 1, 1999, and features flames, fireworks and flowing water to punctuate the nightly show in the Epcot World Showcase Lagoon. The centerpiece of the show is the 28-foot in diameter Earth globe, which contains what Disney calls the world’s first spherical video display system with 180,000 LEDs. A new show “Epcot Forever,” will debut Oct. 1, 2019.

6. Art of Disney: The store will operate temporarily from a new location while refurbishment is underway starting this Fall. Heritage Manor at the American Adventure will later become the new home for Art of Disney offerings.
7. Epcot Character Spot: This location will close Sept. 8, As this takes place character meetings will take place at new locations around Epcot.
8. Club Cool: The place to cool down and get a Coke will close on Sept 8. Club Cool will reopen in a new capacity at a future merchandise location.
9. Innoventions East: Innoventions East, Colortopia and Nanooze Break are scheduled to close on Sept. 8.
10. Fountain of Nations: The huge fountain in between Mouse Gear and Fountain View will close on Sept. 8 as well.
Hollywood Studios
11. “The Super Shindig” dance party at Pixar Place with Mr. Incredible, Mrs. Incredible and Frozone will close Sept. 30.
Magic Kingdom
12. Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration will close on Sept. 30, 2019. The end to this limited-time engagement includes the end of:
- Meeting Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse together – in special celebratory outfits – in Town Square Theater.
- Seeing seldom-seen Disney friends at the flagpole in Town Square.
- Meeting Mickey’s loyal dog, Pluto, under the big top at Pete’s Silly Sideshow in Storybook Circus.
