Milestone in construction takes place for new Star Wars-themed land in Disneyland

Construction teams installed the highest steel beam for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, the new Star Wars-themed land opening in 2019.

The topping off ceremony took place Aug. 21, 2017.

The beam capped off the infrastructure for a 130-foot-tall rock spire, the highest point that will be in the new 14-acre land, according to Disney.

The land’s construction will include about 10,000 tons of structural steel and approximately 200,000 square feet of hand-carved rock work.

The same land is under construction at Hollywood Studios in Disney World and is also scheduled to open in 2019. No up dates have been given on its construction.

As previously announced there will be two main attractions – one in which you get to fly the Millennium Falcon and one where you are placed in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

The video below compares what the steel structure will look like when complete.
